Campbell Confident Despite Injury

Young Christchurch racer Scott Campbell may be in a cast at the
moment but he is confident this will not affect his ability to
drive in this weekend’s national final. How ever he may not
necessarily be able to compete, as he still has to gain the
approval of the clerk of the course.

Campbell suffered an injury to
his right ankle three weeks before the Asset Finance National
Championship Final but doctors are still unsure what damage has
been done. The injury was original diagnosed as a sprain and was
expected to heal within a week. After a week however Campbell was
still unable to put any pressure on the ankle and was then told it
was a sever sprain and was given a full recovery time of six to
eight week. Despite x-rays revealing nothing, doctors are now
suspecting the injury to be a fracture and Campbell is waiting to
have a bone scan to confirm this.

Campbell admits that driving with a cast won’t be easy but a steady
run during the two days of racing should be enough to secure him a
top 3 placing in the VW Shoppe Challenger Class. This doesn’t mean
that He will be backing off however, sitting only 10 points behind
current leader, Troy Tufnell, Campbell is still in a good position
to challenge for the National Challenger Class title, and He
intends to do so.

Campbell is far from being the only South Island driver heading to
Auckland looking to claim victory. This year there is expected to
be the largest number of travelling drivers yet. With outright
championship contenders Dennis Andreassend, Daniel Powell and
current class 5 champion Ryan Densem leading the charge. Geoff
Densem is also entered with his brand new class 1 off-roader
purchased off Ian Foster earlier in the year. Current NZ2 Wayne
Moriarty will be making the trip as will class 4 competitor Simon
Smith, Class 5 competitors Bruce Rolls and Hayden Andreassend, and
class 8 racer Brian Chang.
