2013 Counties Classic Series – Overall Winner – Waikato Offroad Racing Club’s Eric Tears.
Eric raced his, factory spec, Polaris RZR in every round of the Counties Classic Series and stamped his dominance from the start.
This is fast becoming one of the hottest contested classes in offroad racing. Consistently one of the largest fields racing at the Colin Dale Park over the summer, the UTV racers provided the closest racing and generated the rivalry’s this factory class promised. Eric certainly didn’t have it all his own way. By round two his major series rival emerged when #88 Michael Small lined up in his red Polaris RZR. Tears and Small finished the series as the highest points scorers overall. Their class wins were capped by impressive performances in the “all-in” feature races that ended each of the three event series race days.
The UTV racing proved this vehicle as one of the only “off-the-shelf” race cars in the country. Michael Small’s first race day was the Auckland Offroad Racing Club’s Forest Sprint last year , the day after purchase. This same vehicle is virtually unchanged. The only changes allowed in this class are purely for driver safety.
When the field of UTV’s line up at Meremere for ORANZ North Island, Round 1 at the end of April, the winner will be the best driver. The race cars will all be to factory specification.
